On September 20, 2017, City Council passed by-law no. 11902, a By-law to amend Zoning and Development By-law No. 3575 regarding relaxations for low cost housing for persons receiving assistance.
This change gave the City the right to build the 78 units at Heather and West 59th Ave without rezoning the land which would have otherwise be required. As a result the City was no longer required to hold public hearings before rezoning the land. This eliminated the civil rights of the citizens of Marpole to have a say in this critical change to our community.
Of course none of this would be a issue if the City wasn’t building this facilities next door to 3 schools putting about 2,500 children at risk by housing service level 3 category individuals with “extensive criminal history with a high risk to re-offend” there.
